Design system for wedding industry company

Project overview

Wedding Dream is a Polish company from wedding industry. The company has several services and many products to help future bridal couples organize weddings. These include a guide portal, a wedding marketplace, a wedding catalog or a wedding streaming service. The design of the system not only helps the day-to-day work of designers and developers, but also helps to maintain consistency across all services and applications belonging to the brand.

Problem statement

My work in this company was also linked to the formation of a UX/UI team (2 people) – previously this position did not work. This brings with it many challenges, as all work had to be started from scratch. While the company had defined a basic color palette and a number of fonts, it was agreed during preliminary discussions with stakeholders that these should be expanded. When developing the system, we also had to consider the users of the target group and how they currently associate the brand.

Solution

When you create a system design, you should primarily lean on who your website visitors are. In this case, the vast majority are women – future brides or people who are interested in or associated with the wedding industry. The company’s portfolio includes several types of services, including portal, marketplace, company directory, streaming service, app and administration panels. The company also conducts different types of campaigns in collaboration with other companies, so the styles should as universal as possible.

Colors and typography

The beginning of the work with the design of the system is the selection of the right colors and fonts. As mentioned in the previous section, the brand already had a partially developed range, but it had to be expanded. Based on the current brand identification, new colors and fonts were selected that correspond to the philosophy and are suitable for the users of the target group. They do not fundamentally change the visual identity, but they are an extension and updating and, above all, they help to systematize the work, since until now they have often been randomly selected for a particular project.

Design systems items

The tool used to build the design system is Figma, and each of its elements is created with the help of components and their variants. The use of the auto-layout function was an important element in the creation process. Components are based on the selection of colors and fonts shown above.

Like any design system, this system contains all the elements necessary to create coherent designs. Since it is built during other projects, it is constantly being expanded and the current version is not yet final. Below you will find the elements that have been created so far as the project is concerned.
